Devon Health Announces Devon Scholars Scholarship Contest Winners

Partial College Tuition Payments Awarded to Three High School Seniors

King of Prussia, PA — June 7, 2007 — Devon Health Services, Inc., today announced the winners of its third annual Devon Scholars Scholarship Contest. Devon Health is a National Healthcare Cost Management company and the Northeast’s most extensive Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).

The first place winner is Alyssa L. Tousignant, of Oakdale, Pennsylvania. She attended West Allegheny High School where she starred on the tennis team and led a number of character-building student organizations. She also held two part-time jobs. Alyssa will enroll in Washington & Jefferson College and major in pre-medicine. “I am very proud to be the recipient of this scholarship,” she says. “Now I can focus on maintaining the highest grades possible, and be less concerned about how many hours I will need to work to help pay for school. Thank you, Devon Health!”

The second place winner is Central Dauphin High School’s Kaitlin M. Keller. Originally from Harrisburg, the Honor Student volunteered for the Four Diamonds Program, which raises money for children with cancer at the Hershey Medical Center. She will attend The University of Pittsburgh and major in physical therapy. “I am honored to receive a Devon Health scholarship, as it will help me begin a new chapter in my life. I’d like to thank the scholarship committee for choosing me!”

Winning third prize was Christopher M. Mondie of Barnegat, New Jersey. A musician and community volunteer, Chris attended Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, New Jersey, and will continue his education at Rider University. He will major in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine studies. “It is great to see that a healthcare company like Devon Health recognizes young people who are interested in pursuing careers in this field,” he says. “With increasing academic rigors costs of education costs, this scholarship will go a long way in helping me reach my goal of attending medical school and becoming a trauma surgeon.”

Devon Health launched the Devon Scholars program in 2005 in response to the lack of qualified healthcare professionals. The scholarship contest is based on applicants’ financial need, grades, community involvement, extracurricular activities, personal and professional references, and an essay. Awards of $2,500, $1,000, and $500 are given to the winners’ respective university or college of choice in the form of tuition payment.

“Devon Health recognizes the importance of educating young healthcare professionals,” says Louis B. Silk, M.D., chair of the Scholarship Committee. “We are happy to assist these three special and unique individuals in achieving their goals in college and beyond.”
